Today is International Skinny Dip Day!

There is something wonderfully liberating about stepping into the sea with nothing but the sunshine on your skin, the sound of the waves, and good friends beside you.

Today, people across the world will be celebrating International Skinny Dip Day, and here in North Wales we’ll be gathering at Barkby Beach, Prestatyn, from 10:30am to share in one of summer’s simplest pleasures.

For many, skinny dipping isn’t about being naked at all. It’s about reconnecting with nature, leaving behind the pressures of everyday life, and remembering what it feels like to simply be yourself. The sea doesn’t care about your age, your shape, your scars or your story. It welcomes everyone exactly as they are.

Whether you’re a lifelong naturist or you’ve simply been curious about what it’s all about, today offers the perfect opportunity to discover why so many people describe naturism as a feeling rather than an activity. It’s the laughter as you run into the water, the conversations that last for hours on the beach, the shared picnic, and the friendships that grow naturally when nobody feels they have to impress anyone else.

With the forecast promising glorious sunshine, it’s also worth taking a few moments to stay safe. Bring plenty of drinking water, apply and reapply high-factor sunscreen, wear a hat when you’re not in the water, and take regular breaks in the shade. If you’re joining us with children or less confident swimmers, keep a close eye on them around the sea and always be aware of the tides and conditions. And, as always, let’s leave the beach exactly as beautiful as we found it by taking all litter home with us.

If today is your first naturist event, don’t worry.

You’ll find a welcoming community where kindness and respect come first. Nobody expects you to know everything, and there is no pressure to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. Just come along, say hello, and enjoy the day at your own pace.

Sometimes the best memories aren’t planned. They’re made when friends gather, the sun shines, and the sea invites us in.
