Algarve for £32? Lauren’s Found Her Next Naturist Escape
I’ve been looking south again, and this time Portugal has caught me. Fly into Faro and the Algarve gives you golden coastline, warm September days, whitewashed towns and miles of Atlantic beaches — but get away from the busy resort strips and there’s another Algarve waiting for naturists. Around Tavira and the islands of the Ria Formosa are vast stretches of sand and dunes where the pace drops, the crowds thin and suddenly everyday life feels a very long way away.
This is exactly how I like my naturist travel: naturism woven into the destination rather than being the entire destination. I’d base myself around Tavira, wander its cobbled streets in the morning, take the little train out across Ilha de Tavira towards Praia do Barril and continue to its officially designated naturist area. Then I can lose the clothes, find my patch of sand and spend a few glorious hours with nothing between me and the Atlantic breeze. Later, it’s back into town for grilled fish, a glass of something cold and convincing myself that another pastel de nata is essential cultural research.
Then I looked at the flights. Jet2 is currently showing Manchester to Faro from £32 one way, with further £32 September departures appearing on its fare calendar. That’s the sort of price that changes the question from “Should I visit Portugal one day?” to “Where did I put my passport?” I’d still price the return flight, accommodation, transfers and luggage before declaring myself a travel-booking genius — because £32 flights have a mischievous habit of encouraging spontaneous decisions — but getting from Manchester to the Algarve for less than some train journeys in Britain certainly has my attention.
For naturists who want more than a week inside a resort, this bit of Portugal looks rather special. You can have genuine naturist beach time, explore the Ria Formosa, wander through Tavira and use Faro as the gateway to one of Europe’s most beautiful coastlines. It gives me exactly what I want from naturist travel: freedom when I want it, adventure when I fancy it and somewhere interesting enough that putting my clothes back on occasionally is actually worth the effort. Would £32 be enough to tempt you to the Algarve this September?
