Naturism and Me: How Naturism Wales Introduced Me to a Community Where I Can Belong

For me, naturism has never really been about taking my clothes off. That is probably the easiest part to explain, yet the least important. What mattered was finding somewhere I could simply be myself without feeling I had to perform, impress anyone or fit somebody else’s idea of what I should look like.
Like a lot of people, I had spent years carrying the usual insecurities about my body. Age changes you. Life changes you. You notice the things that perhaps you once took for granted, and it becomes very easy to compare yourself with everybody else. Naturism began to change that. When everyone is simply themselves, the differences you once worried about stop feeling quite so important.
But discovering Naturism Wales gave me something I hadn’t expected: community.
I found people from completely different backgrounds, ages and walks of life who were brought together by something much deeper than nudity. There was conversation, friendship, laughter and that wonderful feeling of walking into a group and gradually realising that nobody expected me to be anybody other than myself.
That sense of belonging matters.
Naturism Wales has helped me understand that naturism isn’t something we merely do. It is a way of living with a little less judgement and a little more acceptance, kindness and respect for the people around us. Nobody has a perfect body because there really isn’t such a thing. We are simply people, each carrying our own history, experiences and insecurities.
And perhaps that’s the biggest thing Naturism Wales has given me.
I came looking for somewhere I could practise naturism.
I found somewhere I belong.
