Corsica Without Clothes? Now This Is My Kind of Island Escape

There are places I look at and think holiday. Then there are places that make me want to throw a few things in a bag and disappear.

Corsica is firmly in the second category. 

Turquoise Mediterranean water, little coves, pine and maquis-covered hills, ridiculously pretty towns and mountains rising behind the coast — and tucked into 60 hectares beside the sea near Porto-Vecchio is La Chiappa, where you can actually live naturism rather than simply hunt for a beach where it happens to be accepted. This one has me properly tempted. La Chiappa has two naturist beaches, two sea-view swimming pools, a diving centre, paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing, yoga, sauna and even horse riding. You can camp beneath the pines or choose a bungalow or villa, then wander down to the water without the constant clothes-on, clothes-off routine. There are restaurants overlooking the sea too, which means my extremely demanding daily schedule could realistically become: swim, coffee, wander, swim again, eat something Corsican and stare at the Mediterranean until somebody reminds me what day it is. But I wouldn’t stay behind the gates all week. Porto-Vecchio is around 15 minutes away, Bonifacio about 30 minutes, and the mountains of Ospédale and the Aiguilles de Bavella are within reach for a completely different kind of day. That combination is what sells Corsica to me: I can spend a morning completely comfortable in my own skin beside the Mediterranean, then pull on my exploring clothes and go looking for clifftop towns, mountain roads and the sort of little restaurant where pointing enthusiastically at somebody else’s lunch feels like an acceptable ordering technique.
