Taking your first steps into naturism can feel exciting, but it’s perfectly normal to have questions too. Almost every naturist remembers their first event, first conversation, or the moment they wondered whether they would fit in. The truth is that most people arrive feeling a little nervous and leave wondering why they worried at all.
At Naturism in Wales, we believe that naturism isn’t something you simply do; it’s a way of living that celebrates authenticity, acceptance and freedom. For some, that means relaxing at home or in the garden. For others, it might be walking through the Welsh countryside, enjoying a wild swim, sharing coffee with friends, camping beneath the stars or joining one of our organised events. There is no single “right” way to be a naturist. Your journey is your own.
You Set Your Own Pace
Nobody expects you to suddenly feel confident.
Some people arrive ready to embrace naturism immediately. Others prefer to spend time talking, observing and getting to know people first. Both approaches are completely acceptable.
There is no pressure, no judgement and no expectation that you should move faster than feels comfortable. Your confidence will grow naturally as trust develops.
Ordinary People Living Ordinary Lives
One of the biggest surprises for many newcomers is just how normal everyone is.
Naturists come from every walk of life. Teachers, nurses, engineers, tradespeople, retirees, artists, parents, grandparents and students all form part of our community. Different ages, different body shapes, different backgrounds and different life experiences all come together because we share similar values rather than similar appearances.
You’ll quickly realise that conversations rarely revolve around nudity. Instead, they’re about holidays, work, hobbies, gardening, dogs, music, coffee, politics, camping, cycling and everything else that makes up everyday life.
Respect Comes First
Naturism is built upon mutual respect.
Respect for yourself.
Respect for other people.
Respect for personal boundaries.
Everyone deserves to feel safe, welcomed and accepted. Consent, kindness and good manners are expected from everyone, whether they’ve been naturists for forty years or four minutes.
What Happens at Events?
Many people imagine naturist events to be very different from any other social gathering.
In reality, they’re wonderfully ordinary.
You might find people chatting over coffee, enjoying a countryside walk, playing outdoor games, cycling, swimming, sharing food, listening to live music, taking part in mindfulness sessions or simply relaxing together while enjoying the Welsh landscape.
Some events are lively and full of laughter.
Others are peaceful opportunities to reconnect with nature.
You decide what suits you best.
You Never Have to Prove Yourself
There isn’t a test to become a naturist.
You don’t have to look a certain way.
You don’t need the “perfect” body.
You don’t need confidence before you arrive.
Many people discover that naturism actually helps them build confidence rather than requiring it in advance. Seeing real people with real bodies often replaces years of unnecessary self-criticism with something much healthier: self-acceptance.
A Community Rather Than a Club
Naturism in Wales isn’t simply about organising events.
It’s about creating friendships, supporting one another and building a genuine community where people know they belong.
Many members stay connected throughout the week through our online community, video chats and conversations between events.
Lifelong friendships often begin with a simple
“hello.”
Some people join because they enjoy outdoor activities.
Others arrive looking for friendship.
Some seek greater body confidence.
Others simply want somewhere they can be themselves without fear of judgement.
All are equally welcome.
Safety Matters
Feeling safe is essential.
That’s why safeguarding sits at the heart of everything we do. New membership applications are carefully assessed, expectations are made clear from the outset, and our community works hard to maintain an environment built on trust, kindness and respect.
Our aim is simple: everyone should feel able to relax, be themselves and enjoy the experience knowing
