30% Off Provence? I’ve Found a Naturist Escape Made for September

There are two words capable of completely derailing my sensible plans: Provence and 30% off. Put them together and apparently I’m opening maps again. Hidden between Forcalquier and the Montagne de Lure is Domaine des Lauzons, a naturist retreat spread across 40 hectares of Provençal countryside, where oak and juniper mingle with thyme and lavender and an old 17th-century mas sits at the heart of the place. This isn’t Mediterranean-resort naturism. It’s the sort of southern France where I imagine waking to sunshine through the trees, wandering outside exactly as nature intended and wondering whether coffee counts as today’s first activity.

And I could happily stay put. There are three naturist swimming pools, a sauna, restaurant, bar, grocery shop and plenty of space to disappear with a book, alongside activities when sitting still finally becomes too much for me. Accommodation runs from proper camping pitches to bungalows sleeping between two and six people, so you can choose between canvas-under-the-stars Lauren and slightly-more-civilised Lauren. What really makes me want to go, though, is everything beyond the gate. Forcalquier gives you markets, old streets and that unmistakable slow Provençal rhythm, while the Montagne de Lure puts walking country practically on the doorstep. This is exactly how I like my naturist travel: freedom where I’m staying, followed by clothes in the backpack and somewhere new to explore. Swim in the morning, disappear into Provence for lunch, find a village I’ve never heard of, buy far too much local food and make it back in time for one more dip before dinner.
